Hannover central railway station

Initially, it was Berlin’s terminal stations that set the standard in achieving a viable synthesis between architecture and engineering. Hanover Central is the most significant derivation of the Berlin type of brick construction as employed for a transit station. In his draft design of 1875, Hubert Stier did not merely adopt functional ideas but allowed himself to be influenced by the Berlin round arch style. The result was a castle-like building but without the monumental character of the famed Anhalter station. The architectural design for the refurbishment retains the historical façade and meets all the requirements for a listed building. In the arrivals hall, the passenger is welcomed by a bright and friendly atmosphere.
